How To Make Slime
Here are two popular and safe slime recipes that are easy to make:
Basic 3-Ingredient Slime
Ingredients:
- 1 (8 oz) bottle of Elmer’s white school glue
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1.5-2 tablespoons contact saline solution (must contain boric acid and sodium borate)
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
- Pour the entire bottle of glue into a bowl. Add food coloring if desired and mix well.
- Mix in the baking soda until thoroughly combined.
- Add 1.5 tablespoons saline solution and mix until slime begins to form.
- Knead with your hands until it reaches the desired consistency. If it is too sticky, add small amounts of more saline solution.
Fluffy Slime
Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup white Elmer’s glue
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 cup water
- 2-3 cups shaving cream
- 1.5 tablespoons contact lens solution (with boric acid)
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
- Pour glue into a bowl.
- Add water and baking soda, then mix well.
- Add shaving cream and mix thoroughly.
- Add food coloring if desired.
- Slowly add contact solution while mixing until slime forms.
Storage Tip: Store slime in an airtight container or zip-top bag. It is best played on a placemat or protected surface.
Both recipes are borax-free and safe for children to play with under adult supervision. However, for the slime to form properly, the contact solution must contain boric acid and sodium borate as active ingredients.
